Technology College Status Details
Reddish Vale became a specialist school in 1995, being one of the first LEA schools in the country to do so. We produced a successful phase 3 application and look forward to phase 4. Our original sponsors were ICL, Summit Training, Unilab and EFM. Our original vision of a Technology College from 1995 was as follows:
Progression
- Strong partnerships
- Planned progression routes
- Life long learning
Maths/Science/Technology
- Collaborative approach to teaching and learning
- Development and enhancement of transferable skills
- Competence and confidence in practical applications
Information Technology
- Into every corner of the curriculum
- A tool for teaching and learning
- Encouraging independence and extending capability
Staff Development
- Quality training for all staff in use of new resources
- Skilled practitioners in all areas
- Expansion of technical support for staff
We have achieved much of our vision during the last twelve years. Our new emphasis is working within the community sharing our resources, expertise and experience with partner primary schools and other secondary schools.
We are fortunate that specialist school funding has enabled us to purchase state-of-the-art equipment, and have planned for its sustainability through the College improvement plan.
We have an industry standard Windows 2000 network with internet access on all PCs. We have broadband access to the internet, and a well developed intranet which can be accessed from staff and students' homes. During 2003 we began to roll out 'thin client' technology which will extend the lifespan of our equipment without compromising on performance, and can now be found in History, Modern Languages, Library and English
Our staff are well trained in ICT and ICT is in every corner of our curriculum. Reddish Vale Technology College is a forward looking, exciting place to work and learn.
