Reddish Vale's Golden Jubilee year, 2002
In early 2002 the staff and pupils of Reddish Vale Technology College wrote to the Palace to inform H.M. The Queen that we shared her Golden Jubilee!
Our fiftieth birthday celebrations were in 2002, as Reddish Vale Technology College (Then Reddish Vale School) was built, and took its first pupils, way back in 1952.
Reddish Vale Technology College is committed to working in partnership with the community, and as such we wanted to share our celebration with as many people as possible. We invited all who have ever been associated with Reddish Vale to contact us, and join in with our celebrations, and they came from far afield - even from Australia and Canada! A time capsule put together by students from the college was buried, to be dug up when the college reaches its 100th anniversary! On 1st July 2002 the college was officially reopened by the Mayor of Stockport.
Our year long celebrations included the planting of 50 commemorative trees, and the placing of 50 commemorative seats around the school, a specially written book and calendar to mark the unique history of our first fifty years, and an open week in July. Celebrations culminated in a Grand Summer Fair and Reunion on 6th July - a fantastic evening, where old friendships were renewed and half a century of stories retold!
The year long celebrations were a fantastic way to look back over our first fifty years, and look forward to our next fifty!
