Reddish Vale Technology College in the Local Community

At Reddish Vale Technology College we are very aware of our place within the local community, and maintain community links in a large number of ways.

Our community links extend in every possible direction. Our links include: our farm; swimming pool; The North West Regional Basketball Centre; Adult Education Centre; Day Care Centre; parent and toddler group; sessions with Stockport County FC and local theatre groups; universities and FE colleges; organisations like Making It Back, the Police and the Youth Offending Team. The college attends local community group meetings and is always represented at the Brinnington transport group.

We host local competitions and sports tournaments, as well as summer schools and theatre and dance productions like Pop Idol, Dance Idol and the Plaza Extravaganza. The college has always played a part in the Manchester Festival of Arts and this year performed at the Contact Theatre. Social events are organised in partnership with the P.T.A., and include plant sales, our Golden Jubilee celebrations, and the Summer Fair, as well as special evenings on Drug abuse and Alcohol Abuse.. The college hosts an annual harvest lunch for senior citizens. About 100 senior citizens, who after lunch are entertained by dancers, actors and singers, attend it.

Our extensive IT facilities are used by other schools and by local groups including the University of the Third Age. We have produced websites for local community organisations, as well as other schools, and provide IT support to a number of other schools.

We produce a termly newspaper with a circulation of 10,000. This newspaper has won local and national acclaim. Our communication with parents is very important to us, and regularly produce newsletters and booklets, and hold open evenings and other events.

The links with our Partner Primary Schools are extensive. For more information on our work with Primary Schools, click here.
