The Discipline Plan
Behaviour and Anti Bullying
How does it work?
Teachers make the College's expectations for behaviour in and out of the classroom clear to all students. All teachers in all lessons then follow the Discipline Plan which has been written jointly by staff and pupils. There are two basic principles: All students have the right to learn and teachers have the right to teach.
What if a student does misbehave?
The Discipline Plan will be followed by everyone. Students who do not respond will be sent to the On-Call Room. Parents will be informed when their son/daughter is removed from class.
The On-Call Room is staffed every lesson of every day. A careful record of students sent there is kept. If a student misbehaves in the On-Call Room, he or she will almost certainly be excluded for a fixed period. Parents are asked to collect such students immediately.

BEHAVIOUR AND DISCIPLINE POLICY – BULLYING
Bullying is the repeated intimidation of a victim that is intentionally carried out by a more powerful person or persons in order to cause physical and/or emotional hurt.
All members of the college have the right to a safe, secure and disciplined environment where everyone is valued, regardless of; race, gender, sexual orientation, physical ability, ethnicity or age. We are committed to providing such an environment and will act swiftly and firmly whenever bullying is reported which undermines those basic values.
Bullying is:
Not what a person does – it is how it makes the other person feel.
At Reddish Vale Technology College we treat bullying very seriously. Incidents are looked into carefully and a record kept of what happened and what action is taken.
Bullying is where the bully feels big and the victim feels small, scared and frightened.
If you feel you are being bullied it is very important that you tell someone. You can tell a Peer Mentor, Senior, Tutor or any adult.
We will:
- Take all claims of bullying seriously
- Investigate and act upon our findings
- Encourage pupils to regard “telling” as both acceptable and responsible
- Counsel and sanction as appropriate
- Use peer mediation and/or restorative justice for victims and the bullies
- Involve parents of the victims and the bullies
- Remember the incident and keep vigilant
- Help the bully face his/her own behaviour
- Use the curriculum as a vehicle to teach the values to show that bullying is unacceptable
We recognise that:
- Some victims are also bullies
- Some victims are treated as culprits by the bully
- Onlookers are condoning and becoming part of bullying
- Bullying can be physical, verbal, emotional and/or psychological
(See also Guidance on Bullying and Don’t Suffer in Silence.)
