Homework and revision
Homework is an essential part of the college's learning programme. It provides an opportunity for further practice and teaches independence.
Each student at RVTC is given a homework timetable and personal organiser. Homework is set on a regular basis and parents are asked to monitor this work and sign the personal organiser.
In order to assist students with homework the college Learning Resource Centre is open four nights a week until 4.10pm when a teacher and librarian are available to help with work. The multimedia suite is open for use, as are the ICT rooms. Many curriculum areas in the college hold homework clubs and students are encouraged to stay and use these faciltites. There are also revision facilties in holiday periods provided by departments.
Assessment, achievement and examinations
Students' progress through the college is monitored and reviewed regularly. Targets are set for each student and progress is reported regularly to parents in Progress Reports and on Consultation Days. An annual Record of Achievement is also prepared for each student summarising the years achievements and progress, and setting new targets.
There are annual examinations for all years, and students in Year 9 are entered for Standards Attainment Tests in Mathematics, English and Science. At the end of Year 11 students enter GCSEs and Vocational GCSEs in a wide range of subjects.
Year 11 leave college with a National Record of Achievement which will continue to be useful in interviews, for entry into further education courses and other areas of training. Students may also be enrolled with the NEAB to receive Units of Accreditation, for example; work experience, life skills and key skills qualifications.
