Curricular Resources
The Learning Resource Centre
The Learning Resource Centre is a combination of our college library with a high specification multi-media suite.
The library is a cross-curricular resource run by the Librarian, Val Monks and a rota of student librarians from years 7 - 10. All students and staff are automatically members of the library.
It is styled on the lines of a public library, both in the service we offer and in the general routine. Books are issued on the SIMS system and are protected by magnetic strips. A security gate is positioned near the main entrance. Overdue bills are issued monthly, at a charge of 2p per item, per day. The library can be used as a teaching area and is available for booking by other members of staff for research or topic work.
We have a wide range of titles in reference, non-fiction and fiction, including an excellent range of
paperback fiction. We also stock magazines, publications and daily newspapers. There is a rack of local
and general health information. A number of Topic Files are available on a wide range of cross-curricular subjects.
Titles and publications are being continually updated and we welcome suggestions for new titles or topics.
There is a selection of local history and geography titles.
We are currently replacing the video's with DVDs
We take part in the annual school library service book awards, with activities linked with this throughout the school year, culminating in an Oscars style event at the Plaza Theatre.
