Working With Our Partner Primaries

At Reddish Vale Technology College we see positive and proactive links with our local feeder primary schools as crucial to both our successes and theirs, and we value how these links contribute to the College's position in the local community.

Most important, of course, is ensuring a smooth transition for Year 6 pupils moving up to RVTC. The college holds very successful taster days for partner primary pupils during the year, in addition to the usual two-day induction in July. We visit the primary schools with our road show, which is always well received. .

The partnership with our Partner Primaries extends far beyond Year 6, Darren Kingsley a Primary Teacher employed by the college visits our partner primary schools throughout the year, and delivers ICT lessons in an effort to share good practice. During the summer term year 6 pupils from the partner primary schools undertake an ICT Transition Unit lead by Darren Kingsley at the college, to prepare them for the future.
As a Specialist College the Science and Technology Departments deliver an extensive timetable of lessons linked to the primary curriculum.
Jill Lewins from the Modern Foreign Languages department works in the primary schools, funded by the College - a scheme that is proving very popular and much praised by our primary colleagues. Mr E Mason spends 50% of his time on primary liaison under the Sport Coordinator Programme.
A member of the Leadership support team regularly takes assemblies in the primary schools. .

The college organises a performance arts evening with our partner primary schools which takes place at the Plaza Theatre in Stockport, this year it took place at the Bridgewater Hall. We invite Partner Primary Schools to see our own plays in special afternoon performances, we also have our students visit the primaries and put performnces on for them. We have a number of pupils who are involved with helping arrange inter-primary competitions - particularly the very successful Mini Commonwealth Games. .

The college orgnaies a Gifted and Talented Performing Arts Summer School for years 5,6 and 7. Previous performances include Urban Street Dance, Cowboy Tales, The Carnival and The Circus

During the holiday period, we organise a Cooking for Kids course, and Moving on Up

Working together behind the scenes is especially important. There are regular meetings of the Reddish Group of Head teachers, and we work with our Partner Primary Schools over PTA and social events. .

Finally, the college supports a number of the primary schools with IT technical support. We also design, develop and host some of our Partner Primary School's websites, as well as the Reddish Primary School Extranet, RedNet.
