Year 7 marked Stephen Lawrence Day this week by writing their own poetry inspired by the life and legacy of Stephen Lawrence. Through thoughtful discussion and creative expression, pupils explored themes of justice, equality, and the importance of standing up against racism. Their poems are a powerful tribute to Stephen’s legacy and the change young people can inspire.
Farm Friday Update!
After a busy week pupils finalised the move from the old changing rooms in the barn over to the main farm unit. Over the last couple of weeks this has involved the pupils building and painting boot racks, attaching extra hangars in the farm unit and organising the overalls into sizes with plenty of fresh spares stored below making things a lot easier. Morning club pupils and two intervention groups built the final boot rack this morning, which will be painted today and in use by Monday. Now pupils will a have clean, warm comfortable area to get changed in, all thanks to their own efforts.
The sunshine has meant the guinea pigs have had a chance to go outside and pupils took some great pictures of them and the alpacas enjoying the warmer weather.
Most of the planting of flowers and vegetables has been done in the polytunnel and we hope to give you an update soon of the progress, but we have quite a few beginning to sprout already!
Due to Blackberry Lane in Brinnington being closed, the bus cannot serve Blackberry Lane, North Way or The Links. Services will be diverting via the full length of Middlesex Road instead. Drivers have been advised to wait a little longer at the Middlesex Road/The Links stop to account for children walking down.
Before the Easter break, we conducted some pupil voice about what improvements we could make on the farm and one of the ideas was to move the changing rooms to the farm unit. We set about constructing book racks from 100% recycled wood. These were finished, painted and installed by pupils, who have said it is much better.
Year 11 Animal Care pupils volunteered to come onto the farm to clean the hand washing area and they did a fantastic job.
Intervention and Farm Club pupils were involved in planting flowers and shrubs outside reception before Easter. They enjoy maintaining and watering the plants and are really proud of the arrangements of the planters they decided on. They’re now looking forward to watching them fully bloom over the next few weeks.
The Ivy Project continues to support the farm by kindly donating salad and other veg that is left over after distributing food to the local community via their valued mobile food bank service.
Finally, the last of the ducks to be bred on the farm for now has been named Norris by the pupils. She will be introduced to the other ducks and chickens in a couple of weeks when she begins to feather.
Please find our Spring Newsletter below, which includes a letter from Mr Moroney, trips, news and events from this term, as well as key dates for next term.
We hope all our pupils have a lovely break, and we will look forward to welcoming them back on Monday 13th April 2026.
This week a group of Y10 work experience pupils have been getting involved in all aspects of running the farm, ordering supplies, supervising pupil groups, setting up and filming video projects for coursework. They have worked very hard and seem to have really enjoyed the experience.
Many thanks to the Ivy Project who run a mobile food bank locally. As well as providing a valued service in the community they have kindly been supplying the farm with any leftover fruit and veg they might have.
Y7 intervention pupils have been enjoying weeding and preparing our polytunnel to prepare it for planting. The polytunnel was fully refurbished last year and we’re hoping to get some bumper crops of fruit and veg over the next few months. Pupils are also looking forward to planting some flowers and shrubs outside the reception area and have prepared all the planters with fresh compost ready for next week.
Finally, a Y7 pupil submitted these great cartoons that he created from his snaps of one of our little pygmy goats, Dotty, and our alpacas Horace and Espresso, for our classroom display.
Y7, 8 and 9 parents/carers are invited to attend our Coffee Morning on Thursday 26th March. Please see the flyer below for more details.
