Barcelona Trip - May 2023

Please find the Information evening letter, itinerary and student checklist linked at the bottom of this page.

Important Information about the trip:

Year 9:

Last year we started to organise a cultural trip to Barcelona and the Costa Brava, Spain for our current year 10 students studying Spanish, Art or Hospitality and Catering to take place in May 2023. Due to unforeseen circumstances, we are now able to offer 2-3 places to Year 9 students.  This is open to all year 9 students who would like this opportunity to explore this inspiring city and its surrounding area. The total cost of the trip is £425 per pupil and will include:

Passports

British Passport Holders

In order to make things easier as a group over two border crossings, we are going to be going ahead with a group passport for pupils who are British Nationals, meaning your child will not need their own passport to travel.

If your child is a British national, but was born outside of the UK, please contact the school for a different form to fill.

European Union Passport Holders

If your child holds a passport or ID card from a European Union member country, they will not be eligible to be included on the group passport. Therefore, it is important that your child has their own valid travel documents to enter France and Spain. This document must have no more than 10 years validity and have at least 6 months validity after the end of the trip (13th November 2023). Please also ensure they have the correct documents to enter back in to the UK.

Non-European/British citizens

If your child holds neither a UK nor European Union issued passport, please get in touch with on the details below and school will support where possible.

Healthcare

If you have a European Health Insurance Card (EHIC) you can continue to use this until it expires. If you do not have an EHIC or it has expired, you can apply for a Global Health Insurance Card (GHIC). Please visit the NHS website for further information

Covid-19 Requirements to travel.

There are currently no Covid restrictions for travelling to France or Spain

Meals and Spending Money

We will be staying in half board accommodation during the three days we are in Spain.  This means that pupils will need to have spending money to buy themselves something to eat during the day when we are visiting the city. Barcelona has many different bakeries and cafés offering excellent value for money, so we would ask that pupils budget around 5-10€ a day for their midday meal.

For the trip down to Barcelona from Reddish, pupils will be on the coach for over 24 hours, so we would recommend that you pack them a hearty packed lunch and snacks for the trip as well as some spending money to buy additional meals as required if they get hungry on the trip down.

On the trip back, they will have breakfast at the hotel and we will be looking to eat in a restaurant/café before we get on the coach to return in the afternoon (to be confirmed). However, we would recommend they bring extra money to be able to buy themselves something to eat as we stop off on the route back to the UK, as it will be a long journey. The school will provide snacks for the trip back up to the UK, but this will not constitute full meals.  A total budget of around 30-50€ should be sufficient for additional meals and snacks.

Payment

If you would like to secure a place for your child  on this trip, a non-refundable deposit of £225 must be paid on Parent Pay by no later than the 15th January with the second payment of £200 no later than 15th February 2023.

We will be hosting an information evening in the New Year to answer any specific questions, but in the meantime, please feel free to contact me c.papper@reddish.stockport.sch.uk if you have any questions or queries

Year 10:

Payment Schedules.

The initial payment schedule stands as below. With the festive season upon us and the cost of living rising we understand finding cash to fund trips will put a squeeze on all families. We have tried to help by reducing the minimum payment to £50 on ParentPay and parents and carers can pay when they can. However, it is imperative that all monies MUST be received by Wednesday  15th February 2023 at the very latest or the running of the trip could be jeopardised.

Second payment - £125  - 15/07/2022

Third payment -    £100   -  15/10/2022

Final Payment  -   £100   -  15/02/2023

Passports

British Nationals

In order to make things easier as a group over two border crossings, we are going to be going ahead with a group passport for pupils who are British nationals, meaning your child will not need to bring theirs with them for the trip. We had asked that parents fill out the attached form at return it as soon as possible.

All pupils will need to complete and return the attached application form by Friday 13th January 2023 at the very latest.

If the slip is not returned, parents will be responsible for ensuring children have their own valid travel documents.

Thank you to those parents who had previously returned the form. You will not need to complete the form again,  even if your child’s passport details have changed. We will be in contact should there be any issues.

European Union Passport Holders

If your child holds a passport or ID card from a European Union member country, they will not be eligible to be included on the group passport. Therefore, it is important that your child have their own valid travel documents to enter France and Spain. This document must have no more than 10 years validity and have at least 6 months validity after the end of the trip (13th November 2023). Please also ensure they have the correct documents to enter back in to the UK.

Non European/British citizens

If you child holds neither a UK nor European Union issued passport, please get in contact so we can look at how to meet visa requirements.  Parents and carers will be responsible to obtaining necessary travel documents and visas, but school is happy to support where it can.

We will be sending out additional communications along with invitations to an information evening in the New Year. In the meantime, please feel free to get in contact at c.papper@reddish.stockport.sch.uk should you have any questions or queries.
