Business

The Business Studies department at Reddish Vale High School aims to develop young business people and entrepreneurs. Pupils are introduced to business through building knowledge of core business concepts and applying them to business contexts to develop a broad understanding of how businesses work and entrepreneurship. Progressing through the levels of study, pupils will take a more strategic view of business opportunities and issues. Pupils are encouraged to use an enquiring, critical and thoughtful approach to the study of business, to understand that business behaviour can be studied from a range of perspectives and to challenge assumptions. The courses offered include GCSE, and OCR Cambridge National Awards.

We also aim to provide an insight into the amazing world of business and allows pupils to develop an appreciation of how businesses are an integral part of everyday life, throughout the units taught in both in Year 9 and Key Stage 4.

In addition, entrepreneurs are the backbone of our economy, both the GCSE and vocational course will provide the pupils with an opportunity to develop and grow these skills beyond the course content through our links to employers and Manchester Metropolitan University.

Computing

The Digital and Computing industry are the fastest growing careers in the Greater Manchester area, the intent of this department and its curriculum is to equip the pupils at Reddish Vale to build the resilience, creativity, independence and aspiration required to be successful in their continued learning and ultimate employment in this field and beyond.

Through the curriculum in the Computing and ICT department we will encourage learners to understand and apply the fundamental principles and concepts of Computer Science.  These will include abstraction, decomposition, logic, algorithms, and data representation and will be explored theoretically and through practical experience by designing, writing and debugging programs to solve problems.  The creation of programs will require pupils to think creatively, innovatively, analytically, logically and critically. In addition to this we will encourage learners to understand the components that make up digital systems, and how they communicate with one another and with other systems; the impacts of digital technology to the individual and to wider society and how to apply mathematical skills relevant to Computer Science.

Our Computing Department here at Reddish Vale High School is passionate about delivering a high-quality computing education which ensures that pupils know how computer systems work and how they can be designed and programmed.

Developing a strong understanding of computing is of paramount importance, as it ensures that our pupils become digitally literate – able to use, and express themselves and develop their ideas through, information and communication technology – at a level suitable for the future workplace and as active participants in a digital world. Throughout KS3-4 our pupils will develop an understanding of the key principles of Computing, with a core focus on how digital systems work, and how this knowledge can be put to use through the use of programming skills and knowledge.
